Diagnostic methods considered compliant are presented in the WOAH rabies manual. A list of procedures inspired by the WOAH official methods is also proposed.

Sample treatment for rabies diagnosis

This protocol describes the preparation of brain samples for the detection of lyssavirus antigen (by the FAT) or rabies virus (by the RTCIT) for diagnostic purpose that fulfills the requirements of the ISO/IEC 17025.

Proficiency test for Rabies diagnosis 2021 session

From 31 May 2021 to 28 June 2021

The EURL for rabies is launching a call for participation in a rabies diagnostic proficiency test for 2021.

The test will be performed on a unique panel to evaluate rabies diagnosis conclusion on 10 samples using at least one of the following techniques:

•       FAT (Fluorescent Antibody Test),

•       RTCIT (Rabies Tissue Culture Infection Test)

•       Conventional RT-PCR

•       Real-Time RT-PCR

 

Schedule

Registration must be done before: 4 January 2021

Panels will be sent on: 31 May 2021

Results from participating laboratories must be sent to the EURL for rabies before:  28 June 2021

A report will be issued in: 30 August 2021

Workshop for rabies 2021

Online Format!

From 20 April 2021 to 20 April 2021

Next EURL workshop for Rabies will take place the 20 April 2021 in online format. 

Partcipation is limited  to three participants per NRL from EU and per NRL from EU bordering countries.

 

 

The workshop will last one day and will be divided into three sessions:

Words from International Institutions; Update on rabies situation within UE and bordering countries; Advanced on laboratory techniques.

The meeting day will close on discussion on forthcoming studies that will be held in the frame of the EURL mandate.
